Welcome!

My name, Karin, was pretty common when I was growing up...just not the spelling. Unless you are of German heritage like I am. So, I have spent my entire life answering the question, "What is your name"?... With, "Karin...with an "i"! Who knew it would come in handy all these years later when I went to name my blog.

Happy Mail

Hi Everyone,

I have a couple of cards to share with you today that really aren't related to each other in any way, other than that I used some circle dies to create them both.

I wanted to makes something other than an ordinary card, so I went with an easy Z Fold card.  You start by folding the paper in half, like for a regular A2 sized card, but then you fold the top portion in half again.  You can then decorate the inside panel and the half panel, adding an image that you only attach to the half panel side.

I used the Happy Mail stamp from DRS Designs for my image and the following 2 stamps to create my background paper:
Silhouette Branch Background (stamped in green ink)
Splatter Background (stamped in red and turquoise ink)

Here is a photo of the half fold...

And a photo of the card laying open.  I added a blank circle to the inside for a hand written message.

Since Memorial Day has come and gone, and summer is now unofficially under way, I thought I would turn to making something patriotic for my second card.   I began by embossing a neutral background with a star embossing folder (Darice brand) and I die cut some circles out of red, white and blue paper.  I stamped them using the Interlocking Star Background in red and blue ink, but I didn't have a greeting that would fit my small circle.

I was too impatient to try and ink up the Let Freedom Ring sentiment and stamp it word for word in the circle, so I stamped it once and cut out the words and glued them down.  I attached my colored circles,  tied on a ribbon and added the greeting using some dimensional foam tape.  I looked at it, and decided it needed something else, so I added a few matching stars that punched out from my scraps.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Red, White and Blue

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking forward to celebrating July 4th here in America this weekend, I'm just not sure if the weather will be in compliance.  Unfortunately where I live, we've been doused with rain in biblical proportions!  So far, this has been the 3rd wettest June in history, and that's not counting what we still have to add in from today.  After living through the coldest February in history, this is not the kind of record breaking I've been looking forward to.

Anyway, I've had all things patriotic on my mind lately, so I thought I would think outside of the box with this Fleu de Lis stamp and make a card to celebrate my country.  I looked up the meaning of this decorative design and one source said, "it has been used to symbolize perfection, light and life."  So that to me seemed reason enough to use to adorn my card for this celebratory occasion.

I made a panel by stamping the ornament three times, and layered it with a red border, and a matching punched border.  I adhered it to a navy card base that was stamped using the Interlocking Star Background stamp.

I finalised the card using the Let Freedom Ring greeting and a few star shaped gems.

So with that, I will let this card serve as a reminder to join in our "Oh My Stars!" challenge here on our blog!

Sending you sunny smiles from under my umbrella!

Patriotic

Hi Everyone,
Since it's our all American holiday tomorrow, I thought I would share a quick card I made.  It uses exactly what Sparkle N Sprinkle is famous for, GLITTER!  This celebratory day is the perfect occasion to show off some sparkle, don't you think?
I decided to make a card inspired by our nation's flag by using 1/2" Tear-iffic Tape (#SAT04) coated in Fire Engine Red (#G1007) glitter.  The sentiment was used for the "star" portion of  flag and that was stamped in Versamark (#99702) and coated in Vanilla Ice (#EP265) embossing powder, which has a great bit of sparkle to it as well.  It was then die cut and adhered to the top left corner.

In the end, I felt like the flag did need a few stars, so I coated some Sticker Paper (#99558) in Crystal Ice (#G1058) glitter, punched them out and added them to finish it off.
Thanks for stopping by the blog and I hope you have a wonderful time celebrating our country's birthday!

Freedom

Hi Everyone,
My card today was made in support of the Chocolate, Coffee and Cards Challenge for which DRS Designs is the sponsor this week.  Play along with your "Patriotic" card and you will have the chance at winning a $10.00 voucher to the store.

On this card I used the Freedom Cannon for my focal image, stamping it in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, coloring it with Copic markers and die cutting it out with a Spellbinders square die.  It was layered on a background made by covering some sticker paper with Liberty glitter (both from Sparkle N Sprinkle) and adding a strip of card stock that was dry embossed with stars.  Also, the side of my white card stock layered was punched with a star border punch.

I finished the card with some twine and a glittery star button.  Since the sentiment was built into the image, I chose not to add anything further, but did embellish the firework with a bit of Stickles.

Thanks for stopping by and good luck playing along in the challenge!

Red, White and Blue

Hi Everyone,

Since we are now officially into the summer season, I thought I would share one of the patriotic cards that I made recently with my stamps from DRS Designs. The Fourth of July isn't too far away, and I adore all things red, white and blue at this time of year. I become absolutely giddy looking at the housewares department in the stores and immediately begin planning a barbeque in my head :)

Anyway, here is my card in honor of our great American holiday.

It's a simple layout beginning with a Kraft card base. I stamped the white cardstock layer with the Interlocking Star background stamp in navy ink, and added strips of double sided tape to the bottom, coating them in red, white and silver glitter. I then wrapped it with twine and added a die cut star coated in white glitter.

The As a Nation Greeting was simply stamped, die cut and added to the card with a couple of pop dots.

Thanks for stopping by today, and I hope your summer plans are in full swing!

Happy 4th of July

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all out enjoying some time in the sun with family and friends!  We were lucky enough to attend a couple of outdoor parties this long holiday weekend.  One celebrating an 80th birthday and another one for a 6 year old.  How's that for running the gamut? lol!
So, since it's the nations birthday today too, I thought I would show off this stamp-y card made with one of the newly released stamps from DRS Designs.

Freedom Cannon is among the newest stamps, and I made my background papers using the Starry background stamp, inked in red, yellow and blue.  That was really fun to create, I think I always just use this stamp for Christmas cards.  Then the bottom portion was created with the Woven Plaid stamp, also in navy ink.

I used a couple of gel pens on the fireworks, but it didn't seem spectacular enough, so out came the Stickles and a few gems.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you had a great Fourth of July.  And for all my Canadian friends, I think it was Canada Day over there this weekend, so I hope you had a wonderful day as well :)

Now, for tomorrow and Wednesday, yes TWO days, I will be posting over at the DRS Designs blog, so you can pop by over there and check out more of my handiwork using some of their newest stamps!

Thanks for dropping by!
