Welcome!

My name, Karin, was pretty common when I was growing up...just not the spelling. Unless you are of German heritage like I am. So, I have spent my entire life answering the question, "What is your name"?... With, "Karin...with an "i"! Who knew it would come in handy all these years later when I went to name my blog.

With Sympathy

Hi Everyone,

I'm here showing off another sympathy card I made.  I never got to use this flowering branch image from the set Birds and Branches from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff, so I thought with us not being past spring quite yet, it would make a lovely focal image for a comforting card.  I colored it with Copics and added some pink Stickles to the centers of the flowers.  Simple and easy to mail.

Here is the set in it's entirety :

Not much extra chit chat.  I seem to be so busy with other things this time of year, I really don't know where to begin.  I do wish the rain and storms would stop, though :)  Be sure to visit Lindsay's Blog this week.  She has a great idea for storing ribbon!

I hope those of you in the USA have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Happy Birthday

Hi Everyone,

The card I'm showing off today, was the one I posted over at DRS Designs earlier in the week.  I was so happy with the way this clean and simple birthday card turned out, that I had to post it at my blog for those of you who missed it.

I made it using two of the newest stamps from their latest release. This Giant Open Balloon just cried out to be paper pieced, so I stamped it on paper in primary colors and aheared it to a Kraft base with pop dots,  I did cut off the string portion of the stamped image, so that I could attatch some real twine to them, for texture and interest.

I love the font of this Brush Birthday Greeting and it fit nicely in the corner.  I added some bling just because.  It's a birthday card for goodness sake!

If you haven't been by DRS Designs to see the new releases yet, you can see them all right here.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you are having a great week!

See Ya Later Alligator

Hi Everyone,

It's a with a sad boo boo face that I write my post today, because it's my last card as a Bacon Bit (DT member) for Hambo Stamps.  It has been my complete honor and privilege to design cards using their super cute and totally hilarious rubber and digi stamps.  The good news is there's a new group of talented designers ready to blow you away with their creative talent next week.

The other fun thing?  Now I can be just like all of you in blog land, and play along with the Hambo Hoedown each week. (They give you free digis if you email them your project each week...Cool, eh?)

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to play along this week, but I do have a card to show you.

I used this cute Gator (#4105) for my Bon Voyage card.  I thought it was appropriate since I wanted to say goodbye and him being so fun and summer like, he'll bring a smile when I send it off to a vacationing friend.  I had this darling travel themed paper, and the drink embellishment matched the gator himself.

Many, many thanks to Monica and Judy (and Tim for those great designs!) for one of the best design team experiences I have ever had!  Thanks to the Internet, no one is ever too far away!

OK everyone, grab your dancing shoes and get over to the Hambo Hoedown!

Challenges for this card:
Paper Playtime-Add a Charm
Woodware USA-Anything Goes
Stamping And Scrapping Central-Masculine
I Did It Creations-Anything Goes
Catch the Bug-Summer Celebrations
Crafty Catz-Anything Goes
Delicious Doodles-Let the Sun Shine

Our Uncle Bill

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much to all of you who stopped by my blog and left comments for me this past week.  I chose to stay away from the computer as much as possible this week, due to Rod being on vacation from work.  It wasn't the greatest weather wise, (TONS of rain), both our cars ended up in the shop for repairs, and our beloved Uncle Bill passed away after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.  More on that in a moment.

Still, we tried to make the best of things and went to the movies, (Dying for a comedy, we got suckered by the good reviews for Bridesmaids.  We must be the only people in the world who really didn't like it.  I wanted to laugh, really.  I NEEDED to laugh and gave it every chance to entertain me, but it never worked and fell flat for me) and also went out to eat here, here, here, and here.  It's true, we love to eat :)  In any case, I will be by your blogs soon, and I will be back on my regular schedule next week...

Until then, I just wanted to write a small tribute to Uncle Bill.  I wish I was a great writer.  More than anything I wish I had the gift of storytelling, but since I don't, all I can do it my best.

Bill was an uncle by marriage, married to my father-in-laws sister, and therefore only my uncle for a short 20 years.  He was amazing, one of those special people who left a mark on your heart for life and one of the most well rounded people I have ever known.

Working in the business world before he retired, he could navigate the Internet and knew how to use email.  He was an avid gardener, lover of the arts and travel, sports fan, and could tell you pretty much about how to fix anything.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, as was evidenced by the massive turn out at his funeral.  He touched so many lives because he genuinely cared about you and what was going on in you life.  I've never had a boring conversation with him and we will cherish all the memories we have of our time spent together.

Uncle Bill had a beautiful singing voice, and sang in the chorus of the Cleveland Orchestra.  Here he is singing a solo of "All I Ask of You" at my wedding.

Us with him and Aunt Susie that same day :)

This was a family party at our house maybe 8 or 9 years ago in the summer.  Uncle Bill is 3rd from the right.  While I love this picture, it makes my heart ache. A few folks had already passed away and are missing from the photo, and looking at it now, 3 of the people pictured are no longer with us.  Sigh.  Life moves on.

And this is a photo of us in the Everglades.  They started living in Florida for most of the year, and two years ago we went down to visit them for part of our vacation.  They were fabulous hosts and we had one of the most memorable few days of our lives with them.

Thank you for indulging me on this very personal post. Until next time....

We will always love you Uncle Bill!

Hamming it Up at the Movies

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to "Hamming It Up At the Movies" sponsored by Hambo Stamps! Today Hambo customers and the Bacon Bits Design Team are bringing you fun creations that depict movie titles. It might be our favorite movie, or just one that was fun to design. If you arrived here from Sherry's Blog you are in the right place! If not, you might want to start back at the beginning at the Hambo blog to make sure you are eligible for the hopper prize!

A prize will be awarded to one participant whose movie-themed creation tickles the Bacon Bits’ fancy in a hammin’ jammin’ way! Another prize will be awarded randomly to a hopper who comments on all the blogs along the way. The winners will be announced on the Hoedown blog, as well as on the Hambo company blog, Talk to the Ham, on Wednesday, May 25.

Well, I chose to depict my choice of movie in a pretty literal way.  What do you think? Can you guess what it is?

The Wizard of Oz!

The idea was born when I saw this cute Pig Scarecrow (3801) stamp.  Not only do I love the movie, but the scarecrow is one of my favorite characters :)  I was going to go with a whole rainbow background, but then I remembered I had this Skyline (0433) stamp, and decided to get creative.  It's actually one long city scene, but I stamped it a couple of times, cut it apart and after coloring it, I covered it in glitter to simulate the Emerald City. (I'm feeling so proud)

The yellow brick road was made using an embossing plate by Fiskars and I made the sentiment by hand.  I thought I would give it to my niece when she leaves for college in the fall.

Now dance on over to Yolanda's Blog for another great movie scene!

One quick side note...Did you play along with the guessing game at the Hoedown blog this week on Wednesday?  Were you able to figure out what card is mine?  Well, here it is in all it's glory....

Isn't it funny?  I love puns on cards!  As a matter of fact, my neighbors asked if I had any cards for guys and this was one of the ones I showed them.  They chose it immediately!

It uses the Banana (0922) stamp and the funny phrase stamp You're Ripe (1529) The challenge was chipboard, so I thought the little arrow was the perfect thing to draw attention to the joke :)

I know this has been a lot of info, but if you made it this far, are you up for saving some money on your Hambo Stamps?  All the details for the sale can be found right here.

Okey Dokey, NOW I'm totally done talking your ear off....Continue on the movie hop. Once again, it's on to Yolanda's Blog.

Here is a look at all the images in the set:

God's Love

Hi Everyone,

Well, our crummy weather is back in full force here in Cleveland and I'm sad to say that it seems to fit our mood around here.

Sadly we have had a number of funerals recently, so I have needed the dreaded sympathy card more times than I would like in such a short period.

I made this one using the Background Branch from DRS Designs.  I stamped it in Versamark along the side of my kraft card stock and embossed it using clear powder.  I then colored it in with a Copic marker and tied a bow around the top.  The sentiment is actually from a Christmas greeting which says, "May God's love surround you at Christmas and through the new year."  Of course I just use the beginning portion, which is lovely thought for a sympathy card.

My dearest Rod is on vacation this week, so my visits to blog land may be brief or not at all, and for that I beg forgiveness in advance.  I promise I will be back soon!  In the mean time, visit DRS Designs and check out the newest of new stamps :)

Also, DRS Designs is the sponsor at 365 Cards blog.  Check out the challenge of the day and play along for your chance at winning $15.00 off your order!

For You From Me

Hi Everyone,

My project today is one that was made in about 5 minutes.  My niece's 18th birthday was last week, but we celebrated over the weekend, so that her sister could come home from college for the party.  I had the gift wrapped, but 15 min before we had to leave, I felt like it need a little something else.  I ran over to my stash, and found these little cherries I had printed out a long time ago from the set Sweet Stuff from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff.  I think I actually squealed with delight at what a good match they were for the paper, so I made a simple tag for an embellishment.

All I did was color it with Copic markers, and layer it on some matching card stock.  I wish I had a stamp that said, "For you from us", but I had no time print anything myself (I said this took 5 min, and for real it did). Luckily I remembered to snap a photo before running out the door ;)

If you are wondering why I'm not showing you the card I made her, it's because I used a card I made last August.  The family is headed to France for vacation this summer, so I thought this card was perfect.

Anyway, here is the set these useful cherries came from:

That's Jennifer the birthday girl in the middle...Gosh they are just so cute :)

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to visit Lindsay on her blog today as well.  Have a good one!

Hambo Challenge Time

Hi Everyone,

Wednesday means it's time for another challenge at the Hambo Hoedown blog, so grab your Hambo stamps and join in.  The theme is bright colors and paper piecing.  Can you tell what I paper pieced on my stamped image?  Yes, that darling little " ham"-mock (get it? Ha!) holding that cute hambo pig. (Hammock Pig #3417)  Man I wish I was on that little island too...I also feel the need to tell you that I'm singing "Raise Your Glass" by Pink right now...C'mon, c'mon, RAISE YOUR GLASS...

I decided to embellish my card a bit with a matching tropical (? Well, my blog so I'm calling it tropical) flower and some little hanging beads.  I recently won a voucher to The Charm Barn and those beads were one of my choices. (Cute stuff there and fast shipping!)

Don't forget about our up coming blog hop on May 20th.  You can make something and join in.  The theme is Hamming It Up at the Movies, (you know I love my movies) and all the details about signing up can be found right here.

Lastly, remember there is a DT call out for a new group of designers, so if you want to be a Bacon Bit yourself, now is the time to try out.  Deets and more can be found right here.

SPRING

Hi Everyone,

Well I'm thrilled to say that spring has finally arrived around here.  I mean it's ONLY May 10th for goodness sake! LOL.  I got my grass cut for the first time last week and boy was I covered in mud.  Let's hope things dry off real soon so that I can tackle my flower beds.

Today's card is in honor of the spring season (my mom and grandma's favorite) and I used the newest stamps from DRS Designs.  The background was created by stamping with the Three Butterflies stamp, and I also used the Polka Dot background stamp along the bottom of my pink base card.

The Spring Wording Square was colored with Copics and my pink and black checked ribbon tied it all together.  Oh, and can't forget to mention the added bit of bling ;)

I guess I was in a pink and black mood (it's a classic color combo if you ask me) so my card over at the DRS Designs blog today is another pink and black beauty. Drop by for a visit to see the butterflies make another appearance.

Have a great day and thanks for dropping by!

Pet Sympathy

Hi Everyone and Happy Cinco de Mayo,

Even if you don't generally celebrate the holiday, in honor of it, there is a one day sale! Yay!

Today's card was made for Lindsay from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff.  Last week we found out that her beloved cat passed away.  I wanted her to know that I was thinking about her, since it's always hard when a pet who has been in the family for so long passes away.

I used this cute Kitty image from the set Stick Dog & Cat.  This set is actually free and it's and add on set to the People Mix and Match set available in her shop.

Here is a look at both of them, and remember, everything is 40% off today only:

If you haven't been by to visit my teammates, their blogs are on my side bar.  We post projects made with Lindsay's Stamp Stuff all through the week.  Please visit Lindsay on her personal blog too for tons of tips and more freebies.

Have a Sizzlin' Summer!

Hi Everyone,

I have tons of info in this post, so let's get right to it ok?

This week it's Dots and Stripes.  If you didn't play along last week and get your free digi, just use any Hambo stamp and join the fun.  I went with a summer time theme on my card today, probably because I'm still waiting for the spring to arrive in these here parts. Let's just say I've been using an umbrella for something besides shade! lol.  Want to know a secret?  After coloring my stamped image, the blue in the umbrella totally didn't match the blue in the paper.  So instead of coloring a second image, I just colored the umbrella and paper pieced it on top :)  Yippee for an easy fix!

Here are the stamps I used for this nautical themed baby.

#2.  My term for Hambo Stamps is coming to a close and the powers that be have put out a design team call for a new group.  So, if you have always wanted to be a Bacon Bit ( Don'tcha love that name?!) details can be found here.

#3. It’s a Hambo Blog Hop! And you can join us!

Our jammin’ theme is “Hamming it Up At the Movies.” Using any Hambo image, either rubber or digital, create a project that represents and depicts a movie title. Maybe it’s your favorite movie, or maybe it’s one that you don’t even like. Whatever it is, we want to see your movie creations!

The hop is scheduled for Friday, May 20, and is set to go live at 7:00 AM CST. All blog hop posts must stay at the top of the page for that whole day. A prize will be awarded to the customer whose movie-themed creation tickles the Bacon Bits’ fancy in a hammin’ jammin’ way! The winner will be announced on the Hoedown blog, as well as on the Hambo blog on Wednesday, May 25.

If you are interested in participating, please email Judy at hambodesignteam@gmail.com
by 11:00 PM CST on Wednesday, May 11. The blog hop order will be emailed to you on May 16.

Spotlight on the Basket

Hi Everyone,

This is the card I will be giving to my mother in law for Mother's Day this year.  I used the Daisy Basket stamp from DRS Designs for the focal image, along with the spotlight technique. Have you ever tried this before?  I really should use it more often because the effect is really cool.

I stamped the image and cut it out with my Nesties. Then I stamped the image a second time on a separate piece of cardstock, cutting out a portion using a 1 3/4" punch.  This circular part is the only thing that is then colored, and adhered onto the main image with a pop dot.  I cut out one of the butterflies from the Three Butterflies stamp and used it like an embellishment, and of course my favorite Polka Dot stamp from the latest release had to make its way onto the card :)

With the dots and the bow at the top, I needed to balance out the bottom with some black as well, so I used a Martha Stewart border punch and some bling to make it even more girlie.

Thanks for visiting and I'm also posting at DRS Designs today, so stop by over there and say hi!

Mr. & Mrs.

Good Monday morning !

I made this card to play along with a few of the wedding card challenges, which I'm sure were inspired by the wedding of the Prince last week.  I was one of those watchers, just like I watched when Prince Charles married Diana back in the day.  It was a beautiful wedding, but I have to say my favorite part was the dress of the sister! Omgosh....LOVED IT!

Ok, on to the card.  I used the Wedding Cake image from I Brake for Digis along with some traditional stamps from my stash.  Some Stickles, ribbon and pearls were all that it needed.  Now I just need someone
I know to get married so I can give this away...lol.

Remember to use the code SAVE10KARIN when shopping at I Brake For Digis and you will save 10% off your purchase....Cheers!
